Euro 2012 quarter-final: England 0 Italy 0 (2-4 pen)

Italy defeated England 4-2 on penalties to book a semi-final against Germany at Euro 2012 following a 0-0 draw after extra-time on Sunday.

The last quarter-final of the tournament ended in stalemate at the Olympic Stadium, Kiev, despite Italy dominating throughout.

England led the shootout 2-1 when Riccardo Montolivo missed his spot-kick, but Ashley Young and Ashley Cole then both failed to score, with Alessandro Diamanti netting the winner for Italy.

England must play Italy Nations League game behind Wembley closed doors after Euro 2020 trouble

England must play their Nations League game against Italy behind closed doors at Wembley next June – as punishment for crowd trouble at the Euro 2020 final between the teams.

Gareth Southgate s side made it to the final of the delayed showpiece event in July but were beaten on home turf by the Azzurri in a penalty shoot-out following a 1-1 draw.

The Wembley final was marred by ugly scenes in the stands, outside, and on the concourses, and UEFA hit the English Football Association with a two-game ban on supporters as punishment in October, with the first closure to take place in England s next UEFA game.

The second closure was suspended for a probationary two-year period, while the FA received a €100,000 (£85,000) fine.

The Italy fixture on Jun…

On this day in 2014: Alan Pardew handed record punishment after headbutt

Newcastle manager Alan Pardew was handed a seven-match suspension for his headbutt on Hull midfielder David Meyler on this day in 2014.

The Football Association also fined Pardew £60,000 in imposing the toughest managerial punishment in Premier League history.

Pardew was given a three-game stadium ban followed by a four-match touchline suspension after clashing with Meyler during Newcastle’s 4-1 win at Hull on March 1, 2014.

With his side trailing 3-1, Republic of Ireland international Meyler raced over to get the ball to take a throw-in quickly by the Newcastle dugout.

Pardew responded by leaning in to Meyler and moving his head towards him.

After the FA hearing, Pardew said: “As I have made clear, I deeply regret the incident and again whol…

Dolphins vs Bills Week 8 Picks and Predictions: Buffalo Charges Out of Bye Week

The Bills come into this game fresh off a bye week, during which their lead in the AFC East lessened after a Patriots win. They’ve scored more and given up fewer points than every other team in the AFC and face a Dolphins team on a six-game losing streak.

With the Dolphins sitting on a 1-6 record and now facing arguably the best team in the conference, is there any hope for Brian Flores and Tua Tagovailoa? Get ready for the big game by reading our NFL picks and predictions for the Miami Dolphins vs. Buffalo Bills.

Los Angeles Rams Odds, Predictions, and Betting Preview 2022: Rams Can Compete, But Will Have Struggles

Despite a Super Bowl ring and the bulk of the Los Angeles Rams’ standouts returning (including head coach Sean McVay), oddsmakers are lukewarm on L.A. in 2022.

Los Angeles isn’t an instant frontrunner to repeat, sitting behind three clubs on the Super Bowl futures board and tied with another as the fourth overall choice to become the first repeat Big Game champ since 2004.

Bettors seem a little blasé on the Rams as well, fading Los Angeles from a 1-point home favorite vs. Buffalo (the Super Bowl favorite) in the season opener to as far as +2.5 for this huge Thursday nighter.

And it’s not just Week 1 where we see movement away from the Rams. The opening lookahead lines had Los Angeles as a favorite in as many as 13 ga…

Buccaneers vs Jets Preseason Picks and Predictions: NY Defense Fuels Low-Scoring Tilt

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers could gain clarity on their quarterback situation as they visit the New York Jets as NFL odds underdogs for a preseason showdown on Saturday night.

Tampa Bay (0-1) is still looking to determine whether they’ll be giving the starting quarterback job to veteran Baker Mayfield or former Florida Gators quarterback Kyle Trask. They’ll both have work to do against a Jets (1-1) defense that held the Carolina Panthers scoreless last week.

The Jets are once again expecting to play without Aaron Rodgers, instead giving Zach Wilson and Tim Boyle the ball against Tampa Bay. We’ll discuss how these decisions might impact Saturday’s game in our free NFL picks and predictions for Buccaneers vs. Jets on August 19.

Week 10 NFL Trend Report: Another Fast Start in Buffalo?

If you’re a regular reader of this weekly article, you might find yourself thinking, “What’s with this guy and Unders?”

Yes, I’ve been betting a lot of them and pointing to many Under trends in this article (as is the case again this week), and thankfully a lot of them have been hitting.

League-wide for the season, Unders are cashing at 61.5%. This is quite high for the midpoint of a season, and while I expect that number to dip in the second half, I’ll still gladly pound the Under when the NFL odds line up.

I’ve encountered a lot of people in real life and on social media who’ve told me they don’t like betting Unders, but I love them… I love watching that clock tick down, penalties on the offense, …

How to Approach Super Bowl Betting Trends in 2024

While many sharp sports betting types are quick to dismiss most betting trends for Super Bowl odds, I think there are plenty that are worthy of basing bets around. At the same time, many trends are mere coincidences and hold no relevance to the teams playing.

When it comes to Super Bowl LVIII, we’ve got a mix of each. We’ve seen trends for both the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers carryover from the regular season into the playoffs that are worth considering. We’ll also be flooded with silly ones related to the color of jerseys, who wins the coin toss, and the astronomy signs of each quarterback.

While the silly ones make for fun anecdotes, you shouldn’t be dipping into your betting bankroll to back them. We do, however, have a few credible tre…

Jets vs Vikings Prop Bets: Darnold Struggles in London

London is calling with the New York Jets taking on the Minnesota Vikings.

Minnesota looks to remain undefeated with QB Sam Darnold getting a chance for redemption against his former team, but my Jets vs. Vikings predictions don’t expect a happy ending for him on Sunday.
