The “revenge game” tag can be thrown around too loosely at times, but it feels just right for Stefon Diggs heading into this marquee Week 5 matchup between the Buffalo Bills and Houston Texans.

Bills vs Texans prediction

My best betOver 47 (-115 at BetMGM)

My analysisThe Buffalo Bills offense came to a stunning halt in Week 4 with a 35-10 loss to the Ravens, but I’m not wavering on Josh Allen’s ability to put 30+ poi…

Padres add 2023 All-Star Game MVP C Elias Diaz

Catcher Elias Diaz, the 2023 All-Star Game MVP, is back in the major leagues after the San Diego Padres selected his contract from Triple-A El Paso. The Padres also reinstated left-hander Wandy Peralta (thigh) from the injured list, recalled left-hander Tom Cosgrove, optioned right-hander Randy Vasquez to Triple-A and designated right-hander Lake Bachar for assignment. Major league rosters can expand by two players for the remainder of the regular season, starting Sunday. Diaz, 33, was released by the Colorado Rockies on Aug. 16 after he batted .270 with five home runs and 36 RBIs in 84 games this season. While becoming a first-time All-Star last season, Diaz batted .267 with 14 home runs and 72 RBIs. In last season's All-Star Game at Seattle, Diaz hit a go-ahead two run home run…

Safety-first plan for big games is defining Solskjær’s roundhead Reds

The look on Sir Alex Ferguson’s face was a curious mixture of disbelief, shock and amusement. “You can’t believe that scoreline,” he said. “First 45 minutes, we were outstanding. The sending off was a killer for us. And after that, we kept attacking. That’s the nature of Manchester United, fine. But it was crazy. Unbelievable.” And then, remarkably, he smiled. Because even though Manchester City had come to Old Trafford and dished out a 6-1 trouncing, Ferguson somehow sensed amid his disappointment that the fundamentals of his side would survive this single freak result.

Of course, Ferguson had numerous advantages his successors in the job would not: a better squad, fewer challengers, the reputation and job security that allowe…

From Haaland to Gordon: what happened to Next Generation 2017?

Talent spotting in football can be a brutal and precarious business. There are so many pitfalls on the way and a player who is outstanding at 16 may not make it for a variety of reasons: loss of form and/or confidence, injuries and a host of personal reasons.

Every now and then, however, a player comes through who is so good that he or she seems destined to make it to the top. Erling Haaland – or Erling Braut Håland as he was known back then – is one of them. Of course, a serious injury could have derailed his career but he was one of those kids who stand out from an early age.

Haaland was part of our Next Generation worldwide pick in 2017 and, as we look at how the players have got on in the past five years, h…

Why Zambia’s sharp-shooting Copper Queens won’t leave military behind

Despite the increasing interest in Zambian players from clubs abroad after their impressive recent performances, which have helped the women’s national team qualify for all major international tournaments in the past two years, including the Paris Olympics, there exists a desire among them to be recruited into the Zambian military.

In April, three Copper Queens first-team players – Margaret Belemu, Ochumba Oseke and Mary Wilombe – graduated from Zambia air force training as noncommissioned officers. As a result they missed the Olympic Games qualifiers in February, having also missed the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (Wafcon) qualification round last November.

Zambia’s women could be barred from football at Olympics after Fi…

Blues D Torey Krug (ankle) to miss 2024-25 season

St. Louis Blues defenseman Torey Krug will undergo surgery to address pre-arthritic changes in his left ankle and miss the entire 2024-25 season. The Blues announced Krug's diagnosis in July, noting that an operation would be the course of action if he were unable to rehabilitate the injury through non-surgical interventions. Krug, 33, is entering the fifth season of a seven-year, $45.5 million deal. The deal was signed prior to the 2020-21 campaign. He has missed time due to injuries in each of his first four seasons in St. Louis but played 77 of 82 games last year, putting up 39 points (four goals, 35 assists) and a career-worst minus-31 rating. Krug has played in 778 games over 13 seasons with the Boston Bruins (2011-20) and Blues, posting 89 goals and 394 assists (483 points…

Jack Elway Will Never Be Like You, Dad!

He had the genes, the Aryan good looks, and the resources to become a top-flight college quarterback. If only someone had checked to see if John Elway's son ever cared about football in the first place. Jack Elway has dropped out of the Arizona State football program, after sitting out all of last season as a redshirt. He's not transferring or changing sports and he's not hurt or going on a Mormon mission or anything like that. He's not even planning to drop out of Arizona State. He just doesn't want to play football anymore. I didn't know sons of former NFL legends were allowed to do that. I guess poor Jack will just have to resign himself to the life of every other famous, well-off teenage student taking classes and admiring co-eds in the Arizona sunshine…
